Paths for Clinical Medical Assistants

Provides hospital and nursing home patients with basic care and assists them with daily activities. Helps patients with dressing, washing, and feeding. May perform basic medical care under the direction of a nurse or other medical professional.

Paths for Emergency Medical Technicians

Provides emergency medical care to ill or injured patients and transports them to medical facilities. Works for ambulance services and hospitals and responds to 911 emergency calls. May perform medical procedures depending on level of education and state certification requirements. Works full-time for public and private ambulance services in metropolitan areas; may work as a volunteer for the fire department or an ambulance service in a rural area or small town.

Paths for Certified Nurse Aide

Provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.
